Giants’ Trade Plans Face a Shortage of Draft Picks

On November 3, the New York Giants’ efforts to pursue trades were complicated by a lack of 2027 fourth- and fifth-round picks. The team has been associated with Indianapolis Colts running back Jonathan Taylor and is also looking at defensive tackle.

The Giants have been active in contacting teams about potential deals, while coach John Harbaugh has made clear the club is open to adding players before the NFL trade deadline on November 10. But New York’s limited draft capital could make negotiations harder, particularly for high-profile targets such as Taylor.

The team does not currently hold its fourth- or fifth-round selection in the 2027 draft, after using those picks in earlier trades. A projected compensatory fourth-round pick would not be available to trade until it is formally awarded next March.

Harbaugh has said any acquisition would need to meet the team’s needs and fit its finances and asking price. He also acknowledged that New York has few picks to spend, and said using selections from the 2028 draft could be an option.

The Giants may consider offering valuable picks from the 2027 or 2028 drafts for the right player. In addition to a running back, the team is believed to be seeking help at defensive tackle. The deadline for trades is 4 p.m. ET on November 10.

Players: Jonathan Taylor
