Joseph-Day Could Miss Rest of Steelers’ Season

Steelers edge rusher Jack Sawyer said on November 4 that defensive lineman Sebastian Joseph-Day may not return this season from a triceps injury.
Pittsburgh Steelers defensive lineman Sebastian Joseph-Day could be out for the rest of the 2026 season, edge rusher Jack Sawyer said on November 4. Joseph-Day is on injured reserve with a triceps injury, and Sawyer indicated there is a possibility he will not return. The team has not given a definitive timeline for his recovery.
Joseph-Day joined Pittsburgh on a two-year, $11 million contract in the offseason. After missing the preseason while dealing with an issue during training camp, he played in the regular-season opener and appeared through Week 6. He recorded 10 tackles and a fumble recovery across 111 defensive snaps, equal to 29% of the Steelers’ defensive plays in that span.
The Steelers placed him on injured reserve before their Week 7 game against the New Orleans Saints in Paris. He must miss at least four games and cannot be activated before Week 12. Coach Mike McCarthy said last week that players on injured reserve would have a chance to return, while Sawyer’s remarks suggest Joseph-Day’s availability remains uncertain.
A prolonged absence would leave Pittsburgh without a rotational contributor on a defense that has received strong play from Cameron Heyward and Keeanu Benton. Yahya Black has also performed well at nose tackle, and rookie Gabriel Rubio played 70 defensive snaps over the team’s last four games. Undrafted rookie Kevin Jobity Jr. has logged 25 snaps over the past two weeks and recorded his first sack in the Week 8 win over Cleveland. Derrick Harmon, sidelined by a foot injury, has reached the point when he can be activated after missing the minimum four games.
Players: Cameron Heyward, Sebastian Joseph-Day, Keeanu Benton, Jack Sawyer, Yahya Black, Derrick Harmon, Kevin Jobity Jr.
