Watson Enters Concussion Protocol, Opening Door for Sanders

The Cleveland Browns placed quarterback Deshaun Watson in concussion protocol on November 4 after symptoms emerged following a hit in Sunday’s loss to Pittsburgh. Shedeur Sanders could start against the New Orleans Saints on Sunday.
Watson was hit helmet-to-helmet during the Browns’ 27-6 defeat by the Steelers. The team said he was examined on the sideline and again Monday morning, then told medical staff Tuesday that concussion symptoms had begun the previous night. He was placed in the protocol on Wednesday morning, November 4.
Sanders came into the game against Pittsburgh and may now get another chance to start. Cleveland, which is 5-3, faces the Saints in New Orleans on Sunday.
Watson had retained the starting role this season after returning from a serious Achilles injury. His placement in the protocol could leave Sanders in line to take over while Watson is evaluated.
The Browns have said they do not intend to trade Sanders as next week’s deadline approaches.
