Chiefs Could Pursue Chris Godwin Before Trade Deadline
Kansas City could target Tampa Bay Buccaneers receiver Chris Godwin before the NFL trade deadline on November 4, as the Chiefs seek a boost to their passing game.
The Kansas City Chiefs have been urged to consider Chris Godwin as a potential addition before the NFL trade deadline on November 4. The Tampa Bay Buccaneers receiver has been suggested as a way to address Kansas City’s need for more receiving help after consecutive road defeats to Seattle and Denver.
Godwin, 30, has played in all eight games this season but has had a limited role in Tampa Bay’s run-focused offense. He has 35 targets, is averaging 9.0 yards per catch and has not scored a touchdown. His current season average is 1.2 yards per route run, and injuries have affected his recent seasons.
A possible deal could require Tampa Bay to restructure much of Godwin’s remaining guaranteed $22 million salary as a signing bonus before trading him for a draft pick. The Buccaneers are 3-5, but sit one loss behind Carolina in the NFC South and have won their past two games, leaving their interest in a trade uncertain.
Godwin was a Pro Bowler and helped Tampa Bay win the Super Bowl in 2020. He recorded more than 1,000 receiving yards in four seasons between 2019 and 2023. Joining Kansas City would put him alongside quarterback Patrick Mahomes, while the Chiefs look to revive their passing attack.
