The Baltimore Ravens are turning to undrafted rookie Joe Fagnano for his first career start as injuries leave the team short on quarterbacks. The announcement came Tuesday, November 3, with Lamar Jackson expected to miss at least a month.

On November 4, the Baltimore Ravens are confronting a season-threatening quarterback shortage. Lamar Jackson is expected to miss at least a month with an ankle injury, while backup Tyler Huntley is reportedly out for the season with turf toe. The team announced Tuesday that rookie Joe Fagnano, whose ankle is now healthy enough, will make his first career start.

Baltimore also practiced with Austin Reed and Kedon Slovis, two quarterbacks signed since Monday. The team could look for another option through a trade or free agency, but the available candidates may not offer much certainty. The qualities the Ravens would value include mobility, quick decisions and enough NFL experience to run the offense behind a struggling offensive line.

One potential trade target discussed is Chicago Bears quarterback Tyson Bagent, who has worked with Ravens offensive coordinator Declan Doyle. But he is not especially mobile and has more career interceptions than touchdown passes. Other experienced backups may be difficult to acquire because their teams need them as injury insurance.

The Ravens also face a choice about whether to keep trying to compete or preserve draft picks and accept a higher selection in 2027. A columnist argued that spending significant draft capital on a temporary quarterback would be unwise, particularly with uncertainty about Jackson’s future beyond next season. Tanking, however, could alienate fans and frustrate veteran players still pursuing a championship. Baltimore is 4-4, and the offensive line was identified as an immediate priority while Jackson is sidelined.
