The Edmonton Oilers beat the New York Islanders 4-0 at UBS Arena on October 31, pulling away with three second-period goals.

The Islanders’ first game back at UBS Arena after a three-game road trip ended in a shutout loss to Edmonton. New York had earned points in seven of its previous eight games, but struggled to create offense against the Oilers and managed little danger around the net.

The game turned difficult early when Emil Heineman was ejected for a kneeing hit on Isaac Howard 2:22 into the opening period. Edmonton had seven minutes of power-play time in the period but could not score, and the Islanders kept the game level through much of the first half.

Ryan Nugent-Hopkins opened the scoring at 8:42 of the second period, finishing a play set up by Kasperi Kapanen. Vasily Podkolzin added another 1:08 later, with Leon Draisaitl and Evan Bouchard assisting. New York failed to score on its power-play chances, and Nugent-Hopkins struck again during a man advantage after Matthew Schaefer was penalized for holding Connor McDavid.

Edmonton’s Tristan Jarry recorded the shutout. The Oilers added an empty-net goal with 2:37 remaining to complete the 4-0 score. The Islanders’ penalty trouble continued through the game, while their attack struggled to maintain possession and generate chances.

New York next plays on November 5, hosting the Carolina Hurricanes at UBS Arena.
