Astros Face a Major Rebuild After Middle-of-the-Pack 2027 Ranking

On November 4, 2026, Houston’s early outlook for the 2027 season placed the Astros 16th in MLB power rankings, despite their AL West title. The club faces roster and coaching decisions after an 81-81 season.
Houston’s division crown came with an even record, and its playoff stay was brief. The Astros now sit 16th in an early look at the 2027 field, while Seattle is 14th despite finishing five games behind Houston in 2026, at 76-86. Seattle’s starting rotation and expected offseason additions were cited as reasons for its higher standing.
The Astros have hired Randy Flores as general manager and are interviewing candidates to replace manager Joe Espada. Pitching and the outfield are among the club’s offseason priorities. Bryan Abreu and Steven Okert are among four pitchers who will become free agents.
Houston also has choices to make in the infield. The team exercised Isaac Paredes’ $13.35 million option for 2027, while Jeremy Peña and Christian Walker are entering the final years of their contracts. The Astros’ minus-32 run differential points to a need for more offensive production, too.
Flores faces decisions across the roster as the team prepares for next season. The outlook described Houston as having significant work ahead before it can be considered a serious contender. Labor negotiations could also affect the lead-up to 2027.
