Ravens’ Line Collapse Intensifies Criticism of DeCosta

The Baltimore Ravens’ offensive line struggled in a loss to the Buffalo Bills on November 1, prompting criticism of general manager Eric DeCosta and the team’s coaching decisions. Quarterback Lamar Jackson was likely lost for the season, and two other quarterbacks were injured during the game.
Baltimore’s pass protection failed repeatedly against Buffalo, as the Ravens surrendered a double-digit lead and lost. Their quarterbacks were hit nine times, sacked four times and hurried four times on 17 first-half dropbacks. The Bills pressured the passer on 64.5% of plays and recorded a 13.3% sack rate, according to figures cited in the criticism of the team’s performance.
The game also saw three Baltimore quarterbacks injured in one half. Jackson was described as likely to miss the rest of the season, while backup Snoop Huntley faced pressure after entering the game. Undrafted rookie Joe Fagnano was then asked to drop back repeatedly despite having had no game repetitions since the preseason. The critique faulted offensive coordinator Declan Doyle for using three-receiver formations on nearly two-thirds of the plays, and argued that backs and tight ends did too little to support the line.
The performance renewed calls for owner Steve Bisciotti to replace DeCosta, with criticism extending to the general manager’s roster decisions and handling of contracts. It singled out Baltimore’s decision to trade for center Cam Jurgens, giving Philadelphia a 2028 second-round pick, and contrasted that move with the team’s earlier loss of center Tyler Linderbaum. The critique also questioned the choices to retain tackle Ronnie Stanley and rely on Roger Rosengarten and inexperienced interior linemen.
Head coach Jesse Minter acknowledged the need for progress, particularly in pass protection and the running game, and said the team was still seeking continuity. The criticism argued that Baltimore’s coaching staff had failed to adjust to pressure and that the roster’s weaknesses reflected DeCosta’s decisions.
