Five Trade Targets Offer the Rams Different Answers

With the NFL trade deadline a week away, the Los Angeles Rams are weighing possible additions, including receivers, defensive linemen and a pass rusher. The team’s decision was still unclear on November 3.
The Rams have several potential trade targets as they look to address needs on offense, defense and special teams. Each option comes with a drawback, from questions about production to the cost of taking on salary or giving up draft picks.
Among the receivers under consideration are Josh Downs and Brian Thomas Jr. Downs could add speed and reliable short-area separation, but his recent output has been modest and his size may limit his blocking. Thomas could fill the outside receiver role while Davante Adams is out and has a strong rookie season on his résumé. Since then, however, he has recorded 824 yards and struggled with drops and consistency.
Defensive tackle Grover Stewart could help replace Poona Ford, who is out for the season, and bolster the Rams’ run defense. But a trade would bring $6.7 million in salary, while the team has only $8,000 in cap space. The Rams could make room, though the amount required is substantial.
Chimere Dike would offer depth at receiver and a boost on punt returns, where he is averaging 12.5 yards per return. His receiving production has been limited, making it difficult to justify spending draft capital on him mainly as a returner.
Khalil Mack could improve a pass rush that ranks 21st in generating pressure and 27th in producing sacks. His 12.7% pressure rate is above those of Josaiah Stewart and Wesley Bailey, but Mack might become a rotational player once Myles Garrett returns. The Rams have not made clear whether they will pursue any of the options before the deadline.
Players: Khalil Mack, Davante Adams, Myles Garrett, Grover Stewart, Poona Ford, Josh Downs, Brian Thomas Jr., Josaiah Stewart, Chimere Dike, Wesley Bailey
