Bears’ Win Could Spur 49ers to Pursue a Trade

After their Week 8 bye, the San Francisco 49ers could be more motivated to make a trade, following the Chicago Bears’ road win over the Seattle Seahawks. A November 3 analysis pointed to receiver and edge rusher as possible targets.
On November 3, the 49ers were urged to use their Week 8 bye to assess the NFC and step up efforts to make a trade. The Bears’ victory over the Seahawks stood out as a warning: Chicago won on the road in prime time, and looked like a serious threat in the conference.
The Bears’ offense is performing at a level comparable to San Francisco’s when the 49ers are healthy, the analysis said, while Chicago’s defense has also improved. Defensive tackle Jeffrey Simmons has helped strengthen that unit, though its defensive backs appeared vulnerable. That could make a receiver a priority for San Francisco.
One possible target is Indianapolis Colts receiver Joshua Downs, described as a vertical threat who could challenge defenses. If he is unavailable or would not significantly improve the offense, the 49ers could instead seek an edge rusher. The team has already brought in DeForest Buckner, but adding another impactful player up front could further bolster its defense.
The argument for making a move is that San Francisco has a chance to reach the Super Bowl and should not let it pass. A stronger defense could help against Chicago in a possible playoff matchup, as well as other NFC offenses such as Detroit’s, while making games harder for Seattle and Minnesota. No specific trade was identified as finalized.
