Eagles defensive coordinator Vic Fangio praised the Giants’ acquisition of quarterback J.J. McCarthy for a fifth-round pick ahead of their Sunday matchup, citing the team’s improved offense.

Vic Fangio said the Giants made a shrewd move by acquiring J.J. McCarthy from the Vikings for a fifth-round draft pick. The Eagles’ longtime defensive coordinator spoke ahead of the teams’ Sunday game, praising both the quarterback and New York’s offense.

Fangio said McCarthy had made a strong impression in a short time with the Giants, calling the price paid for him a “steal.” The quarterback has completed 31 of 49 passes for 495 yards and a touchdown across six quarters with New York.

In his Week 7 game against Houston, McCarthy threw 28 times, completing 20 for 252 yards as the Giants won 27-21 in overtime. New York is 4-2-1, and continued strong play could put it in contention for its first division title since 2011. McCarthy’s past inconsistency with Minnesota remains a concern.

Fangio also highlighted the Giants’ other offensive additions, including Baltimore arrivals Isaiah Likely, who plays tight end, and fullback Patrick Ricard, who joined from Baltimore along with coach John Harbaugh. He pointed to the team’s receiving options, tight ends and running backs, and said its offense blends elements associated with Baltimore and Kansas City.
